The month of April is already over??? It seems like only yesterday we were beginning a new year in January. The school year is fast coming to a close, and we are still very busy here at Village. This time, our blog will cover last week, as well as the week we just completed (due to the rough weather). Even though we missed two days last week, there has still been SO much going on in all our classrooms. Upcoming Events: 1. Final CPAA Testing: Week of May 2nd-6th. The day of your child's testing will vary, depending on what day they normally have Tech class. 2. First Grade performance: Friday, May 6th. The children will be rehearsing for this performance each day leading up to that Friday. They have already done a lot and been hard at work on this performance. Come and enjoy! The performances will be as follows: Alvarado, Jones, and Cooney will begin at 11:30 am. McKenzie, Reguera, and Bates will begin performing at 1pm. 3. First Grade field day: Tuesday, May 10th from 9-11 am. Our PE coaches have been hard at work organizing this fun time for us. Hello parents and families, Due to the crazy weather we have had this week, and the fact that we lost two academic days due to that, we are only updating the homepage with upcoming events and reminders. Pictures, and updates to the other pages will take place at the regular day and time next week. Thank you for your patience and understanding with this issue. Sincerely, The First Grade Team Final Note about the Poetry Contest! This contest concludes at the end of next week, so if your child is interested, give it a go!!! If your child loves writing, this is for you! Many of the children really enjoyed our poetry unit, so this contest could be a great way for them to show what they have learned. The weather continues to slowly increase as the month wears on. Can you believe we are already halfway through the month of April!? The children are paying close attention to the morning announcements, where the final days of school are being counted down. Below is a copy of the parent letter that has been sent home, regarding our last field trip of the year, to Little Beakers next week. Please take a moment to read it, if you haven't already. Upcoming Events: 1. Professional Development for teachers: Monday, April 18th. There will be no school on this day. Enjoy the long weekend! 2. Enrichment Project Presentations: Beginning the first week of April (week of the 4th), and continuing throughout the month. Parents are welcomed and encouraged to attend their child's presentation. By this time, you should have heard from your child's homeroom teacher about when your child will be presenting. We are looking forward to ALL the children's presentations!!! Note: The children are doing a wonderful job so far! Take a look at a few below: 2. Little Beakers Field Trip: Week of April 18th-April 22nd. To find out your class's day, please look for a letter next week from your homeroom teacher. You can also email your homeroom teacher directly for more information. 3. Side by Side covers sent home: Be on the look out for your child's Side by Side folder. The final assignment is to make the covers for what will become their Side by Side book. This will be sent home either this week, or Tuesday of next week. Please complete the covers with your child and return them to school no later than Friday, April 29th. The reason we ask for them early is because our aides need time to make the books before the Side by Side picnic in May. Note: Please keep in mind that the template shown here may be slightly different from what your child receives, as we all like to do our own take on this cover assignment.
The children (and teachers) are finding it easy to think of the summer ahead, thanks to our weather heating up. The days are becoming warmer, and it won't take much time (or much more heat) before we all recall winter with fondness and longing. This weather has made us want to spend more time outside. Mrs. Reguera's class took a golden opportunity to write some poetry outside in the field. Ms. Jones's class also took a lesson outside. They did a science lesson, discussing the three states of matter that are present in an ice cream float (solid=ice cream, liquid=soda, gas=carbonation). Upcoming Events: 1.

February has come and gone, but we are excited for a new month. March has plenty to offer with Spring Break coming up, and Saint Patrick's Day. There should be plenty of fun to go around! A Note from the First Grade team about the Rodeo: You should have received a hard copy of this letter from your child's homeroom teacher sometime this week. They need to wear their spirit shirt. Upcoming Events: 1. Field Trip to the Houston Rodeo: Tuesday, March 8th. For full details, see the letter above. 2. Dress Up Character book Day: Friday, March 11th. The children may dress up as a character from their favorite book! The school is trying to raise money for diabetes, and this is a fun way to do it! February is just about over, and we are ready for March! This week has been crazy busy here in First Grade, and we are excited for all the things coming up. Take a look below. Upcoming Events: 1. First Grade Assembly: Thursday, March 3rd. Our assembly will begin at 8am and last until 8:30 or 8:45am. All parents are welcomed and encouraged to attend. They will need a packed lunch also to eat at the rodeo.
Note: We are also asking that children please wear their Village spirit shirt and jeans. Texas gear would look cute, but it is much easier to spot the children when they are in their Village shirts. The rodeo is a very busy place with lots of people, and we want to make sure everyone stays safe, and together. Thank you for your understanding.
