Poetry is what we've been covering.
Acrostic, color, and haiku we've been discovering,
Have their own special rhymes and runs!
We're learning that poems can be about colors or shapes,
We can also visualize one for fun!
Our poem book is coming along,
And other poem projects will be finished before long!
So, we'll keep practicing poetry at home and at school,
Because poetry is just that cool!

We are writing away in First Grade, experimenting with different kinds of poems. Take a look below.
Our learners focused on the ou, as in ouch, sound, in spelling. We made an ouch mouse using this sound, and added band-aids with the ou words on them. A fun activity to build our cutting and spelling skills at the same time!
Our grammar lesson this week focused on reviewing verbs. The students were given sentences that were missing verbs, and asked to add the verb to complete the sentence. To show off their skills, the students then wrote two sentences of their own, making sure they had a noun, verb, uppercase letter to begin and punctuation to end.
We also introduced contractions, which is two words that are shortened to make one word.
