We are carrying on with our poetry unit and having more fun than ever! The children have been busy little bees this week, writing various different kinds of poetry.
We are also exposing ourselves to different poetry authors in reading, like Shel Silverstein, Jack Prelutsky, and Karma Wilson.
In the hallway between Ms. Cooney's classroom and Ms. Jones's classroom you will see a bulletin board titled Our Poet-Tree! This bulletin board will eventually be made up of poems from each of our 6 classes. Already, it has grown since the start of this week! Check it out!
In spelling, students focused on the -ew sound, as in chew. We will begin our study of the ou, as in shout, letter pattern for next week. Please make sure you check out spelling city to study the words with your student.
The students also learned how a compound word is made by taking two words with their own meanings, and combines them to make one new word with its own new meaning.
