We have been learning all about nonfiction text features! The children are learning about captions, labels, titles, headings, glossaries, table of contents and more!
We will continue to discuss and review these features as we begin our work on nonfiction writing! The children have chosen an animal that they would like to learn more about. They will then research (through books and magazines, as well as online sources) their animal, and write a nonfiction book using the various features we have learned about.
We are so excited to start this project, and look forward to working with you and your child to complete it.
Please keep an eye out for emails or letters home describing this project more in detail.

Spelling this week was the wh spelling pattern, as in the words whale and whistle. In grammar, we continue to work on verbs by branching into both past and future tense verbs.
A few of our classes also spent some time this week finishing up their author study! Our "author style" books all turned out fantastic! Way to go, First Grade!
