This week in grammar our students learned that the key to making something past tense is the "ed." We played games and acted out skits where the noun (student) had to do something (the verb) and the others had to write down what that person did, (practicing writing the past tense verbs.)
The kids had a blast with this, and realized very easily that if there is an e on the end of the word, they only have to add the d to show it's past tense with the ed.

Our spelling words this week focused on the long o sound, made by the silent e at the end of our words. Next week we will focus on the long u sound.
This week our writers also started writing their own story that uses the techniques that our authors use. We will finish these up over the next week. Each class has studied a different author and all students will get to experience the other authors during a switch-a-roo on Monday.

In reading, the students read books by their authors and picked out techniques unique to them to include in their own stories.
We also continue to incorporate our author studies in as many subjects/activities as possible. One way we do this is through Daily 5. Another is through math and science activities.
