We are working hard on Unit 8; the main focus recently has been shape. The students should be able to recognize 2D shape and name their attributes. They have also been making shapes from shape, eg. A rectangle can be made from two squares.
We have looked at 3D shapes and are familiarizing ourselves with the number of faces, corners and edges these shapes have. We can also name the shapes that make some 3D shapes. We have also introduced simple fractions, like halves (2 equal parts), and fourths (four equal parts).
Unit 8 progresses with time to the half hour, data handling and what information you can tell from a graph. We will be reinforcing the number grid and solving number puzzles. At the end of the unit we will complete our assessment.
Keep memorizing those number bonds as it speeds up learning. Your child will be ready for solving problems when they know their number facts by heart.
